Menopause
Are you looking for something to help you through the menopause?
Reiki can!
Symptoms of menopause, both physical (hot flushes, chills, sleep changes) and mental (anxiety, irritability, depression) can be a difficult time in a woman’s life. Not really knowing what is going on with you or your body can be scary and also confusing. Finding relief can be as urgent as it is complicated. Do I go and see my GP?
Even though I can’t really explain properly what is going on! Why were my bras shrinking every time I washed them? I used to be a “proper” gym junkie, able to motivate myself 7 days a week. I wanted to go to the gym, but found so many reasons not to, what’s that all about? My body was changing, I was changing and there was nothing I could do about it. I found myself walking in the middle of the road, and only realised when someone beeped me and told me to “get off the road lady”. I got lost coming home from shopping one day, which not only panicked me, but also confused me. I had to pull over and really focus on where I was, and then figure out how to get back home, which I did, after getting confused with the traffic lights, going through a red light, thinking that it meant - go. As for my confidence, well that went out of the window, my self-esteem was at an all-time low, I felt worthless and alone, as if I had lost myself. I then became fearful which developed into anxiety and heart palpitations. These were some of the menopause symptoms I experienced, yes, I went through the hot flushes, spending ages straightening my hair, to then go and have a 30 second flush for my hair to go back curly with beads of sweat dripping off. Oh, and the night sweats, sleepless nights, waking up in a bag of sweat, only to be freezing and shivering once they were over. Some of the worst symptoms I think I had was talking gibberish, (I couldn’t have done this even if I tried) my words would come out backwards, just not making any sense. I remember meeting someone I knew in a store and talking to them, to have them tell me they have no idea who or what I was talking about. Embarrassed and confused I sat in my car trying to figure out what just went on. I knew I knew this person, but why did I think she was someone else?
Eventually I did go to the GP, (I was 32 at the time) to be told he wasn’t sure what was wrong but would take blood tests. The tests came back normal, however, the GP informed me that all my symptoms appeared to be leading to the menopause, but I was too young to be going through this. Thinking back, I remember my mother telling me I was going through the menopause before I had seen the GP. After years of having blood tests, at the age of 40, I was finally told that I was going through the menopause as one blood test had confirmed this. Yes, it’s good to finally be diagnosed, but then came the realisation that I probably wouldn’t be able to have children, in fact I was then told that I couldn’t have children. Unable to take HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) I found myself looking for alternatives and after researching, I found a Soya diet was meant to be good, so I tried to include soya into my diet. I took and still take supplements and vitamins to try and keep my bones strong, and for the flushes I found Menopace worked for me. I finally came to the end of my menopause at the age of 44. It has taken a long time to get “most of me back”. I have memory lapses where I can’t remember certain parts of a year, people I know/knew tell me my behaviours were “odd” or “weird”. Unfortunately, people remember how you were then, not how you are now, if only they knew what I was going through at the time.
So, what is Reiki and what has Reiki got to do with the menopause?
OMG, if only I had thought of Reiki when I was going through the menopause. I am a person who has always been guided by my intuition, but as I said, I wasn’t myself during the menopause and I feel I missed out on something that would have helped me immensely while going through it. I am now a Reiki practitioner of 7 years; I am able to give myself and others Reiki. It always amazes me how the Reiki life force energy works and believe me it really does work. All you need is to be open to it and you will receive it! The more Reiki you receive, the more balanced your chakras become.
Reiki is a non-invasive healing therapy that aims to balance the human energy system. Reiki is beneficial as it works by bringing the life force energy into the mind, body, and emotions through our chakra system.
And what on earth are chakras? Chakras are the major energy centres of the body, the natural flow of energy which is crucial to our well-being:
Chakras
Crown Chakra, using Reiki at the crown chakra can help with emotions and headaches.
Third Eye Chakra, Reiki can assist with sleep and bring about more positive thinking.
Throat Chakra, using Reiki on the throat chakra can help rebalance the thyroid gland which affects the metabolism, appetite, and body temperature.
Heart Chakra, using Reiki on the heart chakra to help with emotional issues.
Solar Plexus Chakra, using Reiki on the solar plexus can help with emotional and digestive problems. It can also help with issues around self-confidence.
Sacral Chakra, using Reiki on the sacral chakra can help with physical hormonal changes and the emotions.
Root Chakra, using Reiki can help ground you and connect you to the Earth and those around you.
Reiki can help to balance the chakra system. Reiki, our life force energy will flow where it needs to go, bringing the chakra system back into balance, helping to alleviate both the physical symptoms and emotional symptoms
In addition to all of this, Reiki can help with regulating hormones, circadian rhythms (regulates the sleep-wake cycle), alleviating stress, promoting healthy circulation, and eliminating toxins from the body.
